We are now reaching that point in time where we are beginning to see more devices that help the blind see, particularly in the area of bionics.  Such implants restore vision to blind individuals but only if the blindness was due to a faulty retina, such as with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy or other degenerative eye disease.  Examples of these bionics are the Argus II and Bio-Retina.

Previously we outlined the details of NASA's Curiosity rover mission to Mars.  We are now inching closer to the August 5th landing.  This landing will be the most intense planetary landing in the history of space travel.  It is also so unique and technically ambitious that even NASA engineers have called it crazy.  They say this mainly because its incredible.  The video below outlines why NASA engineers call the seven minutes to descend Mars in this landing as the "Seven Minutes of Terror."

The Venus Transit of 2012 has now finished, but thanks to the Solar Observatory, we can view the event in its entirety from a different perspective. 

This transit of Venus was rare.  The next transit won't occur until Dec 11, 2117, so mark your calendars.  The data obtained from this transit will assist scientists in both discovering some unknown secrets of Venus as well as techniques for searching for planets around other stars.

Ray Bradbury, author of the Martian Chronicles, Fahrenheit 451 and many more classic novels has died this morning in Los Angeles at the age of 91.  Ray Bradbury's work inspired millions ranging from artists to film over the years.
