The PS4 may be closer than you think. An article on Eurogamer described SCEE chief Jim Ryan as saying: "I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]."

Does this mean that we'll be seeing a new Sony gaming console next year, or possibly 2013? The PS3 came out in 2006, and is still a powerful gaming console in its own right. With the Nintendo Wii U and a possible new Xbox console on the horizon, Sony may be wise to try to maintain a similar release schedule as its competitors. What do you think, are we ready to replace the PS3? And, I suppose, to the even bigger question – is the world ready for the next generation of gaming?

Now you could simply print out or download the fully detailed map of Skyrim.  But why do this, because coming soon will be Dragon Shout.  Its an interactive map for iOS allowing for annotated markers and journal entries.  For instance, if you are at a location where there are riches to be gathered up and you can’t do it then, you could use the app to mark down the location and come and take things later.

The company plans on adding future updates that will make it more social, allow marker sharing or party wide chats with pictures and more.  For instance, you could encourage a friend to check out a certain dungeon.

The app will be the pricey cost of free.  Watch their website here for details to come.

As of November 11th, Microsoft has been rolling out its Xbox 360 fall dashboard update to its public program (beta) members, though as of last month registration into the program is closed.  The new dashboard features the Windows Phone 7's Metro style interface with a number of new enhancements.  Microsoft has added cloud storage for profiles and saves, as well as Kinect driven voice recognition and gesture support, particularly for the new Bing Search app that will be part of the dashboard.  They have also added live TV programming and social tools that will let your friends know what you are doing in 360 land.

Remember back when Kinect was just a new fad? Frankly I have the device and I can tell you that its pretty fantastic in the gaming realm, but as time moves on, we appear to be poised to see more and more practical applications for the device hit the market. Many have already been showcased on internet threads, such as a cool way to have interactive presentations in a business setting to those of managing personal finances to scientific research tools. These uses have been termed hacks. So perhaps as a result, Microsoft is planning its own commercial SDK for the device. Early next year it is due to be released. After the break is also a video clip showing the many possibilities Kinect has to offer.
