The OnLive gaming platform continues to grow with its collection of games.  As I've commented in some of our Podcasts, I personally play a few games on the system and find it to be an enjoyable experience.  I've commented on how the graphics are solid, though not quite as "sharp" as PC counter-parts.  I decided to grab a few screenshots from both the PC and the OnLive system and compare.  In both cases the original resolution was 1920x1080, but to show more detail I have cropped them on particular areas.

Before we get to the comparison here are some details on the OnLive experience and requirements.

To play a game you simply have to go to their site and sign up for a free user account.  Once you have an account you can then try virtually every game they have in their library with the demo option, usually a 30 minute timed demo.

There is finally an official Microsoft branded app for connecting to your companies Microsoft Lync communications server on iOS.  A week after a bunch of other Microsoft apps arrived for iOS and Android, Microsoft has released versions of the Lync 2010 client on iPhone and iPad.  You can find the iOS app here.  Previously if you wanted to connect to a Microsoft Communicator or Microsoft Lync server, you would have to use a third party app like iDialog, which was pretty good as well.

Both versions are free, just as they are for Windows Phone and Android.  The Lync app requires a corporate connection to Lync 2010 Server or Lync Online.  Lync Online is part of Office 365.

I personally think this is a great move by Microsoft, a giant software company, extending its line of applications onto other platforms.  Hopefully this will be a continuing trend and prove beneficial to Microsoft.

NASA is going to reveal new planets discovered by the Kepler space telescope today in a press conference.  You can monitor NASA TV for the conference.  Kepler has been in orbit since 2009 and is designed to hunt planets in distance solar systems.  NASA recently revealed a planet that exists in a habitable zone of a star 600  light years away, called Kepler-22b.

The overall number of known worlds discovered to date, beyond our own solar system are in the 700+ range, both via Kepler and other observation methods.

Check back to this post for updates later.

UPDATED:

NASA announced the detection of the first Earth sized planets outside our solar system today in the press conference.  Kepler-20e and Kepler-20f, both too close to their host star to be in the habitable zone, however.  These are the smallest exoplanets found around a star like our own.  Read more details on NASA's news article here.

For those of you who may not be aware... You can configure things, so that Skyrim outputs multi-channel surround sound just like on an Xbox or PS3.  Assuming you already have your Windows PC hooked up to a multi-channel receiver, you go to the sound icon in the system tray.

Right click it and choose "Playback devices".

Now right click your sound device and choose "Configure Speakers", then choose 5.1 or 7.1.

Once configured, Skyrim will output fantastically decoded 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound on your PC so now you can hear your Dragon Shouts in their full glory.

One note, however:  If you are using SPDIF or Optical, most likely you won't see the "Configure Speaker" option.. this only seems to work on "HDMI" connections.
